Websites & Color – Text Color

Text ColorWe’ve been exploring how color affects the usability of websites, from the meaning of color to color psychology. Another important factor in choosing your color palette is the color of text.

Readability

Readability of text is incredibly important element of design to consider for the success of a website. Because text is harder to read on screen than on paper, choosing the right background and the text colors is important. Contrast between background and text is essential, so websites with dark backgrounds should have light text and websites with light backgrounds should have dark text.

Contrast and Hue

Black text on a white background is the highest contrast color combination because black has a 0% brightness value and white has a 100% brightness value. Hue also affects readability. Complementary colors produce the highest contrast. So, if you’re looking for a good contrast color for your background, just look across the color wheel.
