Websites & Color – Color Psychology

Colors are can be separated into groups depending on how they make you feel. There are three basic groups of colors: cool, warm, and neutral. Picking the color group for your website should be based on the feelings you want to invoke. Also, consider using colors from each of the groups, to give you site balance.

Cool

Cool colors typically have a calming effect. While that sounds appealing, too many cool colors can feel cold or impersonal. Adding in some warm or neutral colors can help make a suite feel comfortable and soothing.

Cool colors include:

Blue
Green
Turquoise
Silver
Gray

Warm Colors

Warm colors invoke excitement in people. Unlike soothing cool colors, they typically cause strong emotional reactions. Too many warm colors on a website can be over-stimulating and may overwhelm your visitor.

Warm colors include:

Red
Orange
Yellow
Pink
Gold
Brown

Neutral colors

Neutral colors are best used as backgrounds and font colors, but they are also very useful in bringing together other color combinations. They help draw attention to featured colors, making them pop more. They also tone down color palettes that may be overwhelming otherwise.

Neutral colors include:

Black
White
Gray
Ivory
Brown
Beige

I never thought that color have such an effect on creating a blog site.I thought it is just another way of putting some design for your site. Reading this article gives me a lot of ideas about colors its category and effect on the website. I prefer cool and warm color for my next webdesign.

Colors are everywhere around us, they instill us states of mind, feelings, they give us the strength to move forward or they sink us into a deep silence. They are also the basis of a successful website!
