Get Twitterpated – Getting Followers

Are you new to this whole Twitter thing? Get started with our Introduction to Twitter.

So, how do you get followers on Twitter?

Having a Twitter account won’t do you much good if no one is looking at it. Getting followers can be easy, but it won’t happen overnight. Here are a few things you can do:
• Offer unique and interesting content, but make sure it is relevant to who you are. You’ll get burnt out quickly if you try to be something you aren’t and you won’t attract the right kind of follower for your business anyway.
• Participate. Search for topics that are interesting to you and reply to others’ tweets. Don’t just add an “I agree,” but really interact. Be funny, creative, or insightful (or better yet, be all three).
• Follow people who you are interested in and think would be interested in you. Don’t follow every Tom, Dick, and Harry out there, but only those people who offer you something real and who you can offer something to in return. If you sell Arbonne in Oregon, find some Arbonne sellers in Texas to follow. They may do some things that you think are great and can do for your customers, without competing in the same market.
• No man is an island, and neither is any social media. Twitter won’t do everything for you in isolation. You need an online presence that includes other social networking ventures like Facebook, YouTube, or a blog. You might want to incorporate print media into your marketing strategy as well. People who find you in one place may connect with you in another place. Diversify.
• Be an authority on a topic that is relevant to your business. The Twitter universe already has lots of people who are posting about their breakfast cereal, and most people don’t really care. Give people unique, relevant information to really sink their teeth into and they will follow. If you build your niche, they will come.
