If you’re new to using Facebook, start with our introduction to Facebook, our discussion about Facebook Fan Pages and tips on Using Images and Videos as well as Getting Your Fans Involved and Varying Your Content.
Using Tabs
Pages allow multiple, customizable tabs. You can add a tab for videos (a great marketing tool), for customer testimonials, or for featured products or services. The only limit is your creativity. You can have people who are not yet fans of your page land on a special welcome tab, rather than your wall. You can also create tabs for specific products or services, or for surveys or discussions.
Who does it well?
The White House (WhiteHouse): The White House social media experts are brilliant at getting the most out of the tabs on their page. They have information, live media stream, video, discussions, events, and others. They have a ton of content in these tabs that will keep people interested.
REI (REI): Not only does REI have a number of tabs including discussions and events, they make sure that visitors land on their “find out” page, so it is totally branded.
Columbia Sportswear (ColumbiaSportswear): Columbia has tabs for featured events like Muddy Buddy, where they include links to the official gear for Muddy Buddy. They also have a tab for virtual gifts that you can send to friends on Facebook. Now that’s brand recognition.
How can you use this for your business?
Create a tab that can be a landing page for visitors to your page other than your wall. Brand it so your image is easily recognized.
If you own a sporting goods store, have an image of your equipment in use and links to your site where you can buy the equipment.
Use tabs to get a ton of specific information out to visitors.
If you own a daycare center, you can have a tab with staff profiles and one with sample daily activites.
If you own a deli, feature a tab with coupons and one with your menu.
Tabs are a great way to get people who love your business a wide variety of content.
