Probably the hottest and most exciting new computer item to hit the tech world this year is the announcement of the new iPad by Apple.
Announced today, the iPad is a tablet sized PC that Apple has been working on for what seems like forever. Apple will sell this jewel of Silicon Valley for $499, which includes a 16GB hard drive. A 32GB hard drive model will sell for $599, and a 64GB hard drive version will sell for $699. The iPad will be included with certain data plan bundles available with AT&T.
Every iPad has WiFi, with future models destined to include the cutting edge 3G wireless frequency. The iPad can easily sync up with your iTunes using a USB port, and you can turn pages on the screen with the touch of your fingers, similar to a Kindle, and comes with a keyboard dock and picture frame dock if you are so inclined to use your tablet as a standard PC or as a picture frame.
The size of the iPad is roughly the size of a hardback novel, and it will need to gobble up market share from technophiles who love their iPhones and those who won’t let go of their beloved laptops. Can’t you see everyone carrying one of these in a few years? Months? Weeks? Days?
Unlike a Kindle, the iPad comes with an OLED screen that is back-lit, to make reading easy.
