Feel The CommentLuv

computerloveBlog owners are well aware of comment spam. Most comment spam is of the dreaded automated kind, the kind we wish we could make disappear with the click of our mouse. Oh wait, we have Akismet for that.

Regardless, automated comment span does not allow the use of comments without moderation. So how can blog owners encourage real people to leave real comments on this blog posts? By rewarding them of course!

Enter CommentLuv

The CommentLuv plug-in allows blog owners to offer a free no-follow link to a commenter’s blog by pulling in the latest blog post from the commenters RSS feed and appending a link to it to the comment. The moderation of these comments is still advised, considering there are always those looking to spam your comment section.

CommentLuv affords the opportunity to be specific about the type of blogs one comments on. Obviously, we need to know how to find blogs that use the CommentLuv plug-in?

Find Some CommentLuv

Newer versions of the plug-in use images to the Enable CommentLuv check box, making the hunt for CommentLuv enabled blogs a bit more difficult. However, there are many blogs with the older version of the plug installed in which Google easily reveals their identity. Simply enter the following string into your Google search:

“Enable CommentLuv which will try and get your last blog post, please be patient while it finds it for you” [your keyword]

Be sure to replace [your keyword] with a keyword (or phrase) relevant to your niche. So if you are looking for blogs about the Portland Trailblazers you might enter the following in to Google:

“Enable CommentLuv which will try and get your last blog post, please be patient while it finds it for you” Portland Trailblazers

Just like anything else you might do with your blog, be sure to fart around with it and have fun!

CommentLuv is a favourite plugin of mine when it comes to rewarding people for taking the time to comment on our sites.

‘Just like anything else you might do with your blog, be sure to fart around with it and have fun…’ absolutely.

    Regards,

    Karl

I use the commentluv plugin on one of my blogs. You have to be careful when you install it because it will add to your spam.

I have used comment luv for awhile and really haven’t noticed any increase in traffic commenting on blogs and I think it decreased the value of the site I was running it on.

I think commentluv is a great way to reduce spam, and get many people adding relevant comments, as you said above, by providing an incentive for non-spammers to comment on blogs in the form of backlinks.

CommentLuv is a nice feature to WordPress, unfortunately it increases spam comments, especially if you put it along with KeywordLuv.

I just read an article today regarding CommentLuv where a guy actually experimented around with it. Although I did not think that going from one month to the next would really show any real potential CommentLuv might have. At any rate, he did find that his views and comments went up by 10%. I did tell him to maybe check in to it 4 to 6 months later to see but….either way I think it is a good way to repay people by lway of links that have an interest in discussing certain blog topics. The spam does get out of control but not sure spam will ever go away….
